OUR COMMITMENT TO WILDLIFE AND LAND

The beating heart of Worton Park is the land upon which it’s founded. With the park made up of a rich tapestry of habitats including wetland, wildflower meadows and woodland, we are honoured to play host to an abundance of diverse flora and fauna. With this in mind, protecting the land and wildlife around us is of the utmost priority and is therefore the reason that we do not allow public access on the park; always asking that people ensure they stick to the public footpaths that pass through the grounds.

OUR VALUES ARE FIRMLY ROOTED IN THE LAND AND WILDLIFE AROUND US. HERE ARE JUST SOME OF THE THINGS WE DO TO LIMIT OUR IMPACT AND MAKE SURE THAT WE LEAVE A LASTING POSITIVE EFFECT ON THE LAND:

CHANGING THE NARRATIVE

‘A weed is a flower in the wrong place’ or so the poem goes. But what if it’s just where it needs to be? We truly believe in letting nature thrive around the park wherever possible - every nettle, wildflower, hawthorn or grass plays a vital roll in sustaining a thriving ecosystem by providing a much needed habitat and food source; allowing native species to flourish.

CONSERVATION

We are proud to have areas of our land that have been classified as an SSSI (site of special scientific interest). However, regardless of the site status, we ensure that all of our land is conserved and looked after; from sewing wildflower seed around the park to support pollinators, installing bat and bird boxes and restricting human interaction.

INVESTING IN THE LAND

We have planted in excess of 80,000 trees on our second farm at Thrupp, creating an important habitat for wildlife to thrive. It also makes for some beautiful walks enjoyed by the local community, whilst providing a vital carbon sink.

RESTORATIVE FARMING

We are proud to be adopting restorative farming techniques, which increase the biodiversity of our fields and protect habitats. We are also certified organic by the Soil Association.

Renewable ENERGY

Using renewable and sustainable energy sources is an integral element of our ethos. The heating for the park is generated using a combination of the biomass boiler (fuelled by locally sourced natural waste product), air source heat pumps and solar panels. We are currently expanding our solar output with additional panels in various locations. Our energy provider uses 100% renewable energy.

ENCOURAGING GREEN TRANSPORT

We now have a total of seven EV charging ports on Worton Park, ensuring it is as easy as possible for people to choose greener travel. To better accommodate anyone wishing to cycle to work, we have removed the styles on the footpaths across our land, as well as providing plenty of bike storage around the park. No public access on the park

Allowing nature to take root, undisturbed by human interference, is integral to the conservation of the wildlife that inhabits the land around us. Protection of habitat and nesting grounds is essential, as well as generally providing an undisturbed environment. This is the reason that public entry is strictly prohibited at all times.

Waste management on site

Our waste is carefully recycled on site. All of our food waste is taken to the anaerobic digestion plant situated at the bottom of the park, which turns it in to renewable energy. All waste water is purified onsite through our reed bed system, which in itself provides a diverse habitat for wildlife, through lake, wetland and reed bed habitats.
